The “Free Shipping” Scam

Posted in Things to know when BUYING Ear Candles at 6:15 pm by Administrator

I’ve read a lot of comments on various forums about  free shipping “scams” and “ripping off John Q Public”, so I thought I might take a minute to break down “free shipping” for the casual ear candler.

Some ear candle websites use the phrase “Shipping Included”.  Another website warns you that “other” companies ‘say their shipping is free when they just increase the cost of the candles to cover shipping’. Both of these comments ARE EXACTLY THE SAME THING!

Both companies can state they offer “free shipping” because the shipping charge column is empty at checkout.   Sadly, both companies require you to purchase a MINIMUM number of candles at a higher price than other less advertised companies (start comparing prices, folks) so they can absorb the cost of shipping!

Look at the facts:  Most ear candle companies ship Priority Mail through the US Postal Service.  The very MINIMUM charge for the smallest most lightweight package is $5.05.   Parcel post is actually higher, and UPS handles heavy packages (which ear candles are not).

So, if you were to be allowed to order 1 or 2 ear candles from the ear candle companies I mentioned above,  they would be paying the post office to give you an ear candle – if they actually were offering “FREE SHIPPING”.

The only real “free shipping” offer comes from companies who offer free shipping after a minimum DOLLAR purchase.  Not quantity or  item purchase, but the dollar amount you spend with the company.  These are legit companies who know the customer needs a break.  They actually do absorb the cost of shipping without inflating prices for smaller orders.

So, off topic just a bit.  Many of you ask why shipping so so expensive.

Like I mentioned above, the smallest most lightweight package (1-4 candles) shipped Priority Mail, which you receive in 2-3 days, costs $5.05 and it goes way up from there.   The average minimum shipping charge with most ear candle companies is $7.98 .  Customers don’t account for the cost of the shipping labels, packing paper, peanuts, printer and ink, packing tape and the labor cost for the shipping personel.  That’s where the other few dollars go.

So, is a flat rate shipping charge “fair”? YES!  Of course the more you order the less you pay per ear candle.

So why don’t I just buy them at the store instead of online? Because you pay the retailer for HIS cost of the candle, cost of shipping and up to a 300% mark up!!  Buying candles online isn’t the quickest, but they are delivered to your door.

I’m getting off my soap box now.  Have a great evening everyone~

Science and Ear Candles

Posted in The Science of Ear Candles at 11:30 am by Administrator

Scientific method has not been able to prove that ear candles work.  This is true.  Of course they have been trying to prove that ear candles suck wax out of your ears.  Well, no wonder they haven’t been able to prove anything!

Years ago, most people doing or teaching the art of ear candling understood that all the gunk left in the bottom of the candle was from their ear.  Others went so far as to “read the tea leaves” of the residue inside the candle and diagnose health issues such as yeast over growth, cancer, high cholestrol etc.  Wow!  China and India now produce a NAVEL candle to insert. . .well you know.

I don’t subscribe to navel candles.  I think that’s carrying on the snake oil propaganda.  It dosen’t matter how great something really is in the beginning, there will always be people who abuse it to make a profit.

That’s what happened to ear candles.  A few greedy profit mongers started making claims that ear candles could cure almost anything.  They sold FEAR.  People bought it because that’s what the pharmaceutical companies sell on TV every day. We’re conditioned to believe all the  hype that we’ll “catch it too” if we don’t go see our doctor and get a pill.  Likewise, misinformed or greedy ear candle practioners said if you “don’t get ear candled every month, you’ll never get better.”.

After a while someone said, “Hey! I burned a candle in my Barbie doll’s ear and the candle looked just the same.  This is a fake!  A scam!  I’m telling!!  Mommy. . .”

Then, BAM!  Ear Candles no longer were a healthy and gentle alternative to ear irrigation, ear pick, or surgery; methods a doctor would normally prescribe.  Ear Candles  were labeled a “scam” because a few people wanted profit over truth.

I don’t have to have “proof” from science or the FDA (don’t even get me started on the FDA mistakes) to know they work.  I have earned the right to tell people ear candling works because I take responsibility for my own health and well being.

Because of years of ear candling, I saw my own children NOT have to go to the doctor’s office for ear infections and sinus problems.

I witnessed a plug of wax come out of my daughter’s ear when I was first learning how to candle.  She felt it loosen and it was stuck to the tip of the candle.  She could hear out of that ear again, where before, her hearing was muffled and we were debating on going to get her ears irrigated ( a very painful and nerve wracking treatment btw).

I’ve sent countless numbers of ear candles to members of the military because they swear that ear candling is the only relief they get from the sand and noise pollution surrounding them during their deployment.

I’ve seen bugs stuck to the ear candles after a session.  I’ve watched very happy people leave my office after ear candling because they feel good.  I even had a client who drove over 800 miles twice a year to see me because ear candling was the ONLY thing that helped his tinnitus (chronic ringing in the ears).  BTW, his doctor told him to as they had exhausted all other treatments.

My own D.O. referred clients who were unsuccessful in RX treatments for wax build up, ringing in the ears, and stress.  His patients (my clients) were much happier with the gentle treatment that ear candling offered as well as the results they enjoyed.

So, how do ear candles work?  Science and PMA (positive mental attitude) are like water and oil;  they don’t mix.   The proof is with the believer.  A  responsible believer who understands that a pill, a shot, a visit to the hospital or doctor dosen’t always give the desired results.

You can wait until you’ve spent hundred at the Dr’s office , exhausted all the treatments available and then decide that ear candling might benefit you, or you can try it first and then spend your copay at  the Doctor’s if you don’t get the desired results.

That’s the science of Ear Candling.

Ear Candles and Q-Tips

Posted in The Science of Ear Candles at 8:31 am by Administrator

Have you heard that Ear Candles and Q-tips. . .opps I mean “cotton swabs” are the most dangerous personal hygene items on the market today?  Did you ever wonder why q-tips are also called “cotton swabs”?  Have you heard the phrase “never stick anything in your ear smaller than your elbow”?

What do YOU do with a “cotton swab”?  I use them daily. . . IN MY EAR!  OMGosh!!!  I should be arrested for using the “cotton swab” for what it was originaly designed to do; swab out the ear canal.

I use ear candles as well because they leave me feeling balanced, clear in the head and it just plain FEELS GOOD!  I don’t get that much satisfaction from a “cotton swab”.

Of course there are those who don’t use common sense  (like the lady in the McDonalds drive-thru who spilled her daily coffee in her lap and then sued Micky D’s because they didn’t warn her it was hot) or read instructions (which is why Micky D’s now puts warning labels on their coffee cups).  These people naturally have no business ear candling OR using Q-tips.

Years ago, Q-tips were endorsed for swabbing out the ear canal.  Gentley swabbing.  Then, some lady went through the McDonalds drive thru with a q-tip stuck in her ear and smashed it into her ear because she forgot to roll down the window while retreving her order!  So now, all Q-tip packages have been renamed “cotton swabs” and have warning lables on them to NEVER insert them in your ear.  Yet, we ALL know what to do with a “cotton swab”, right?  Ok, the story isn’t exactly true, but there was a lawsuit because someone decided they didn’t have to exercise responsibility for themselves and punctured their ear drum with a “cotton swab”.

In order for the “cotton swab” industry to save face and continue to manufacture their GOOD product, they had to put that silly warning label on.

Q-tips are great except when they are abused.  Ear Candles are great plus a good ear candling session will leave you feeling “new and improved” as long as they too, are not abused.

So why should the FDA control our right to insert something smaller than our elbows in our ears?  The FDA doesn’t control “Cotton Swabs” because they are not a medical device.  Q-tips are personal hygene products and I propose Ear Candles are the same thing.

What do you think?

Why Ear Candles Work –Reason #1

Posted in The Science of Ear Candles at 2:30 pm by Administrator

There’s a long list of reasons why ear candles work and an even longer list from skeptics on why they don’t.  Scientific method wants to prove ear candles work while wellness gurus just know. Big Pharma hopes it’s all a scam because ear candles seriously cut into their profits.  Can’t you take a pill for excessive ear wax build up. . .yet?

There are plenty of books out about ear candling.  None of them offer scientific proof, but they do offer the single most important reason on why ear candles work.  But, because there is no scientific method used to offer conclusions, many doctors (and those paid by big pharma) refuse to accept the facts.

I’m reminded of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America.  They tell story after story of  people who were shocked by the insensitivity of  physicians when being told they were going to die of cancer.  Then they contacted the Cancer Treatement Centers of America and through a serices of NON-TRADITIONAL therapies these hospice bound victims rose to become survivors.

So, you might be asking yourself what makes “thinking outside the box” better than just believing your doctor?  And what does all this have to do with ear candling?  (BTW, they do not use ear candling at the Cancer centers and ear candles do not cure cancer). Each person in that center does ONE THING to change the outcome.  They took responsibility for their own welbeing instead of accepting the doctor’s opinion!

Ear Candles work for those who are willing to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.  That does not mean doctors are not valuable for our healthcare.  Those who step up and take responsibility also own the right to determine if something works or not.

Imagine for a moment that you had your mother following you around until you are 60 (or she dies) telling you what to do every moment of every day.  You would never have to think for yourself, decide what to eat, how much exercise is right, or if you need motrin or asprin for your aches and pains.  She would be there telling you and you could blame her for everything that went wrong.

That’s what our society is like now regarding big pharma and doctors.  We have them following us around every day on tv, internet, phone and radio shoving pills down us and telling us we’re sick when we really aren’t.   Did you know that the average physician now spends more time speaking with the pharmaceutical reps that with patients?!?!?!  Ever noticed those suits in the waiting room adorned by a briefcase (loaded with samples and contracts) that always seem to get in before you do?

So, back to responsibility.  It’s a new word for some folks.  It’s a word that EMPOWERS!  Ear Candles work because those who use them successfully have already taken the 1st step towards empowerment — responsibility.

Want to find out if you are a candidate for ear candling?  Then take the quiz .  Then DO IT!
